Hourly Volunteers

These opportunities are perfect for individual volunteers of all ages (including students!) and groups who want to support the Family House occasionally.

Hourly Volunteer Opportunities require a volunteer profile and registration online, but these do NOT require an additional application.

  • PROVIDE A MEAL

Provide a meal for 45-50 people. The registration page will have all important details.

    Registration is required.

Hour value is on an honor system.

  • PREPARE GRAB-AND-GO SNACK BAGS

Prepare 10 or more snack bags that guests can take with them to the hospitals. These should be put in paper lunch bags (which can be decorated!) and may include a bottle of water and individually wrapped store-bought snacks, such as a healthy granola bar, dried fruit, crackers, breakfast bar.

    Registration is required.

    10 bags = 1 hour of service

  • ASSEMBLE WELCOME BAGS

Prepare 10 or more Welcome Bags that are put on guests’ beds when they arrive. These should be put in 8×10 gift bags (which can be decorated!) and may include a puzzle book, deck of cards, pen and notepad, tissue pack, hand sanitizer, note card, travel sewing kit.

    Registration is required.

    10 bags = 1 hour of service

  • MAKE HOMEMADE DESSERTS AND GOODIES

Prepare homemade brownies, cookies, trail mix, or muffins. These should be packaged in individual portions (e.g. one brownie or 2-4 cookies per bag) and include a date. These may not be store bought in order to receive volunteer service credit.

    Registration is required.

    12 goodies = 1 hour of service

  • DINNER HOSTS IN THE KITCHEN
    • Please note that Dinner Hosts may register as hourly volunteers and come once or twice without going through additional steps. If dinner hosts would like to come regularly, an application and background check is required.
    • Prepare the kitchen for dinners.
    • Help put meals in individual containers for guests.
    • Put away leftovers.
    • On evenings when small groups are preparing meals in the kitchen, Dinner Hosts help to orient them, answer questions, and provide support.

    Registration is required

  • EVENING MELODIES

Brighten people’s day by playing the piano, playing another instrument, or singing in the Family House living room!

Musicians usually play from about 5:45-6:15. Nights of the week are flexible.

To talk about details and schedule an evening to share your talents, contact Lindley.Curtis@familyhousews.org or 336-612-3734.
