This week, our Family House Board of Directors and management team made the decision to cancel rather than reschedule our 2020 Men Who Cook event that was scheduled for March 21st at Bridger Field House. While there was a remote possibility that the event could be postponed in the fall, there are too many unknowns to proceed with committing to a date this fall.
As you know, for the last 4 years, this event has raised significant support for our Family House patients and their caregivers throughout the year.
While we’ll miss tasting the Adobo Chicken, Cedar Plank Salmon, and Brussels with Muscles, we’ll miss seeing you even more. If you purchased tickets to attend the event, you can request a refund or you can donate the amount paid for your ticket(s) as a donation to the Family House. Request a refund by emailing or calling Tracy Geiger at 716-361-2915 or email@example.com. Please request your ticket refund by April 30. If you choose to donate the value of your ticket, you will receive a tax receipt by mail in early May with our sincere thanks!
Our chefs were excited to share their favorite dishes with you. It’s too bad they’re not offering take out! They did an amazing job raising over $21,000 in pre-event “tip” donations for the Family House. To honor their efforts, we are still awarding prizes to the top three teams. Congratulations to the following:
- Tim Lowe, Wes Doub & Chris VanParys of Lowe’s Foods: $6,774
- Scott Wierman, The Winston-Salem Foundation & Jimmy Flythe, Duke Energy: $2,765
- Russ Curtis, Hound Ears Club & Lisa Cooper, Mast General Store: $2,625
Finally, we want to extend our gratitude to our event sponsors.

Get your appetites ready, because the SECU Family House in Winston-Salem will be serving up the 5th annual helping of our popular Men Who Cook fundraising event this year on Saturday, March 21 at Bridger Field House. The event brings together local male celebrity chefs and their cooking teams who battle it out to please the tastebuds of nearly 400 hungry attendees of the event. Participating chefs come from all sectors of the Winston-Salem community from banking to clergy, lawyers to realtors, higher education to local media, and everything in between.
Thank you to all the sponsors, chefs, attendees, and volunteers who come together to make each Men Who Cook event a huge success!
“I can see how and why the event has become the ‘go to fundraiser’ in our community. It’s fun. It’s relaxed. There are no lengthy speeches. Just people having a super casual good time eating and drinking.”
