To give guests a creative way to heal outside of the hospital, and to help their minds rest from their illness or their loved one’s illness, the Family House partners with Sawtooth School for Visual Art for Art & Wellness classes.
Guests from all walks of life, who may be at the hospital during the day, were huddled around tables, patiently receiving instruction, mixing colors, cheering on the creations of others, and smiling – really smiling. It is a needed respite from a taxing day at the hospital. These guests often create a thing of beauty amidst the chaos, depression, and destruction that medical crisis can bring.
Participants don’t need to have any prior art experience. They’ve created felted wool jewelry, paper marbled, various forms of art journaling, and more.
“Thank you for the hospitality shown during our recent stay. Dinner was wonderful! The art journaling activity was so much fun! I was able to forget that I was sick for a little while. I haven’t been able to laugh as much as I did during that event in a long time. Thank you for everything!”
“When my husband and I stayed the month or so at the SECU Family House. I too made a necklace out of wool…To this day I still wear it! Thank you SECU Family House for all the fun activities you have planned to do with us.”
