Tips for Hosting a Successful Facebook Fundraiser

Happy birthday!

Thank you so much for choosing to set up a fundraiser for the SECU Family House.

You and your supporters are amazing and the funds you raise will help a family in medical crisis stay in a comfortable, affordable place.

To help you reach your fundraising goal, I’ve created some useful tips about how to host an awesome Facebook fundraiser.

Donating through Facebook is fast and secure. Funds come directly to the Family House, and Facebook does not take any fee – which means 100% of every donation helps our families. Facebook sends the donor their tax-deductible receipt via email.

1. Time it well

Schedule your fundraiser so that it is 2-4 weeks before your birthday, and ends about 4 days after your birthday or event.

2. Get the ball rolling

Nobody likes to be first. That’s way it’s always a good idea to start off your fundraiser by making the first contribution to encourage others to get involved.

3. Add your “why”

Let your family and friends know why the Family House matters to you – because they care about YOU the most!

4. Start with your close contacts

Once your fundraiser is set up, you need to invite as many of your friends as possible so they see what you are doing. Start by inviting your close contacts because they are the most likely to donate. This will help build up some momentum.

5. Now move to other friends and family

Once you have a good base of donations, start inviting your other friends.

6. Follow-up periodically

You’ll need to contact people several times during the course of your fundraiser. Posts are easy to overlook or forgotten. Treat it like a campaign. Most donations will be from you personally reaching out to people rather than people seeing it in their newsfeed or notifications.

7. Post updates

Post updates thanking everyone who donated and sharing progress toward your goal. Every time the fundraiser is mentioned, new people might see it. People like to see they’re helping you hit your next milestone (25%, 50%, 75% toward goal).

Good luck on your campaign! If you have any questions please reach out at lisa.northrop@familyhousews.org or 336-793-2822.
