Tenth Anniversary Park Project
Master plan by John Newman Design
The SECU Family House on the Richard J. Reynolds, III & Marie M. Reynolds Campus will be celebrating its 10-year anniversary in the fall of 2021.
Opening in 2011, much of the original landscaping of the campus has grown and matured in a way that complements the facility and surrounding neighborhood. However, there is a lack of accessible nature for guests. There is little shade, few seating areas, and no accessible walking path. There is an area on campus that is currently unused, and has great potential to solve all of these problems.
This park project will bring in large canopy shade trees, a meandering walking path, a covered gazebo area and benches for rest. Most importantly, it will be accessible to all guests, including those in wheelchairs.
The Family House has engaged John Newman Garden Design to propose a transformational park project in the quadrant at the northeast corner of the campus.
John Newman Garden Design has years of experience creating the exact vision we have for the space. His previous work includes design at the William G. White YMCA, Augsburg Lutheran Church, The Arts Based School, The Kenan Institute for the Arts, Bobby Boy Bakery, and more. He has done other garden projects for the house in a timely, cost-effective manner, and continues to maintain all the spaces he works on.
The Park Project will evolve over time into a shaded haven with a central garden space that can be experienced from all sides and viewed from an elevated, covered structure that places the viewer in the heart of the creation.
