In celebration of our House Hero monthly donor month, we give recognition to a former family who is returning the favor.
Why is the Family House important to you?
From January to May 2014, room 204 in the SECU Family House was our “home.” The SECU Family House staff, volunteers and residents became our local “family.” When our family experienced a medical crisis, we chose to relocate to Winston-Salem to be close to our loved one. From the moment of check-in, we were supported, encouraged, and cared for by the Family House family. We did not have to worry about transportation, meals or being in a safe place. We were able to focus our attention on our loved one’s recovery. We appreciate the care and compassion shown us by the Family House team. The Family House is important to us, because they demonstrated that our family was, and continues to be important to them. We want to make other families feel supported and loved, just like the Family House team did for us.
Why support families and guests who are in a medical crisis when there are many other worthy non-profits?
The SECU Family House is an effective and impactful charitable organization. We know precisely where our resources are going—to support families who are in the midst of a medical crisis. Our donations have an immediate effect. We know this when we walk into the Family House. There are families there from all backgrounds who have an affordable, safe, comfortable “home” to live in for a short while or a long while.
How do you think your gift impacts Family House guests?
I know that our gift helps a family and their recovering family members to be closer to one another. Our gift allows family members to help create a positive healing environment for the recovering one. We hope that our gift lightens the family’s burden.
Why does giving once a month work for your family, and why should others consider a monthly gift?
Giving once monthly is easy, fast and safe. We encourage others to give monthly because your contributions will be well-spent and will immediately make a difference in a family’s life.
