Why We Serve: Novant Health Labor & Delivery

Why We Serve:

Novant Health Labor and Delivery

Give it up for just a few of the wonderful dinner groups who have served up some amazing southern hospitality in our kitchen. Today, we want to put a spotlight on Novant Health’s Labor & Delivery department. They’ve been super stars this year – signing up to serve 13 breakfasts and dinners since January. Here’s why they volunteer:

“I’ve always enjoyed cooking and seeing that bring comfort and joy to people. We went to the SECU Family House a couple of times in nursing school and it just seemed like such a blessing for people to have a resource available like the Family House. What better way to serve your community than by doing something you love!”

“Personally, it makes me happy to cook for them. I relate food to happiness and I hope a good meal will brighten their day! Good food can make a lot of things better!”

“Volunteering contributes to hours that can be used to progress up the clinical ladder and it’s so rewarding to be able to volunteer in a way that makes it not even feel like you’re volunteering.”

“Volunteering for the Family House makes it worthwhile because I once was in Ronald McDonald House and having people around that cared to volunteer and make our worries disappear with a good meal meant the world to me.”

Their Tips on Serving a Meal

  1. Collaborate with your team: that way everyone can bring small things that we can then put together as a whole meal.
  2. Have a list posted in a central area for people to sign up to bring food.
  3. Nominate an individual to look up available dates, coordinate meal ideas, and communicate with your whole team.

We’re not kidding when we say it takes a village to run the Family House.

Just look at how many people it took to feed families this past quarter. A big thank you goes out to all the other individuals, families, businesses, churches, and clubs that filled our kitchen with amazing food. Thank you!
