It Takes A Village
Thanks to you, our home is warm inside despite the chill outdoors.
On January 7, 15 families checked in to the Family House. They were greeted with a delicious potluck dinner from our Merry Meal volunteers, an art activity with Sawtooth School for Visual Art, a therapy dog visit with Elite Canine’s Comfort Dogs, and a little piano music.
On January 8, 9 more families will check in. They’ll be greeted with a hot dinner from Pine Grove United Methodist Church, and a visit from therapy dog Kira.
Fast forward to March 8. The morning was cold and dreary – some rain and a few snow flurries. Walking inside, you notice a quiet, but busy buzz in the kitchen.
Six families were downstairs fixing their morning breakfast. One found a bagel she liked, donated from The Bagel Station. Others fixed a cup of coffee to take off the chill. Most sat quietly watching the morning news.
Housekeepers loaded up their carts and headed up to clean rooms for the next families who come to check-in.
Mary at the front desk started calling the eleven families on our wait list to come in for the day – all will have a place to stay tonight.
John and Vinni, our Friday morning volunteers came in to take out the trash, make fresh coffee, drop off donated cake squares from Dewey’s Bakery, and restock the kitchen.
Later that evening, two guests – two strangers before they met in the dining room – jumped in to help fold laundry.
