Recent guest pays-it-forward with a holiday art sale
Fleta, a recent guest, spent some time at the Family House this fall. When she returned home, she thought of a creative way to return the favor for future families – an art sale from her Asheville art gallery, 310 Art. Read on to see why she created this art sale and how you can participate.
What: Fine art sale
When: Now until December 24, 2020
Why: “This fall we traveled numerous times to bring a family member to Winston Salem for medical care. Besides the stress of travel and treatments was the worry about finding a safe, convenient, and affordable place to stay. We were so fortunate to be referred to the SECU Family House who took us in like family, provided a clean and pleasant room, food, support, and much kindness. While families worry about the practical things, patients also worry for their families who are the caregivers. Taking that worry away was such a comfort and blessing for the whole family.
During this time of Covid, there is the added stress of safety and a clean space. The Family House maintained careful protocols and cleaning to make sure everyone who entered was as safe as possible.
Overall, we stayed over a month and every time we called, sometimes on just a few hours’ notice, we were provided with accommodations. The kind staff told us we were family.
Generous donors also provided nutritious meals many nights, as well as a stocked kitchen and lots of snacks. The sliding scale of payment offered allows anyone to stay. I know for us during this difficult year the help financially was enormous and allowed us to be with our family member who was undergoing treatments.
I want to pay back some of the kindness by including the SECU Family House in our gallery Thanksgiving Fundraiser. We are calling this fundraiser “HOPE: Looking Forward”.
All the profits from sales of art from the online store of my gallery will be used to cover two projects.*
- One is to foot the bill for the modest renovations of our classroom at the gallery, 310 ART. (*Update: We made an early announcement of this fundraiser and have already raised our renovation costs. Now, all profits from sales on our store through Dec 24th will go the the family House.)
- The rest, I will donate as a gift to the SECU Family house in Winston Salem. This fundraiser runs now through Dec 24th, 2020. You can help us raise a very generous donation while also collecting original art from some of the best artists in WNC.
Again, we have already covered all of our renovation costs by an early announcement so your purchase now will go to the Family house.
