Kathy K. Carr, Executive Director
Kathy Kooken Carr was named executive director of the SECU Family House on the Richard J. Reynolds III & Marie M. Reynolds Campus in March 2010.
Kathy was raised in Winston-Salem, graduating from RJ Reynolds High School. After receiving a B.A. from Davidson College, she worked for Aladdin Travel Meeting and Planners until moving to Gainesville, Florida. While in Florida she worked for the undergraduate School of Business at the University of Florida as an academic advisor. In 1992, she returned to Winston-Salem with her husband, Dr. David Carr, who is a general surgeon with Salem Surgical and Associates.
Active in the Medical Alliance of the Piedmont since then, in 2003 Kathy served on the steering committee of the Hospital Hospitality House as a liaison to the Medical Alliance and has continued to stay involved in the project. In July 2009, Kathy was hired by SECU Family House as the campaign coordinator.
Kathy and David have three children and live in Winston-Salem. A member of Augsburg Lutheran Church and the stewardship committee, she also serves on the NC Lutheran Synod Council. She is an active member of the Medical Alliance of the Piedmont, and Town and Country Garden Club. She enjoys Pilates, golf, and tennis.
Melissa Thompson, House Manager
Melissa was recently named to the newly created House Manager position. since 2005 Melissa has worked for Atma Hotel Group as the General Manager/Director of Sales of Comfort Suites and Microtel Inn here in Winston-Salem. Melissa has been in the service industry for over 25 years with the last 20 specifically in the hospitality segment. During that time she was involved in the opening of two properties which gave her great experiences in the construction and pre-opening phases of a hospitality facility.
