Milestones

A Steering Committee of interested volunteers has worked on this project since 2003, attracting a growing base of support from businesses, corporations, churches, families and individuals throughout the community. Milestones include:

• 9/20/05 – Incorporation
• 11/8/05 – Establishment of nonprofit structure 501(c)(3) and Board of Directors
• 12/5/05 – NC Tax Exemption
• Member of The National Association of Hospital Hospitality Houses, Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce, NC Center for Nonprofits
• 3/21/07 – $1 million grant from the Richard J. Reynolds, III and Marie M. Reynolds Foundation
• 2007-2008 – Forsyth Medical Center and NC Baptist Hospital Foundation pledged $250,000 each to the Endowment Fund
• Spring 2008 – Capital Campaign began
• Five working committees established
• Winter 2008 – Board of Advocates, chaired by Borden Hanes, created
• 2/17/09 – Legislators file companion Bills in the House and Senate to support an appropriation of funding
• October 2009 – 8.8 acres of property on Hospice Lane purchased
• 10/9/2009 – $2 million challenge received from State Employees’ Credit Union Foundation
• $5.4 million raised to date
